Great shows, lousy packaging Aug 27, 2010
I am very pleased with my purchase of "Agatha Christie's Poirot: The Classic Collection." I got 36 wonderful 51 minute long episodes of Poirot mysteries that I thoroughly enjoy -- five stars for the product. Unfortunately, one has to nearly break the discs to remove them from their spindles. Once I have removed them for the first time, I am transferring them to 2-disc slim cases so as not to damage them in the future.

Great series and a fabulous box set for the Hercule Poirot fan. Special features are a little thin being no more than some biography facts, but otherwise a sound value.

To put it simply, this is a GREAT set and a far better value than buying all of the smaller sets. 12 discs with three episodes on each disc. David Suchet is the PERFECT Poirot! I loved watching all of these episodes on TV and now I can watch them anytime I want! YAY!! On a rainy day just put in a disc, grab a blanket, hit the couch and relax and enjoy!!

My wife and I like to watch DVDs late at night. She's largely in charge of the programming and I usually follow along. Well, she picked up the "Poirot - The Classic Collection." I was a bit taken back and didn't care for it through the first couple episodes, but it gradually won me over and I began looking forward to the nightly adventure or two. Hercule Poirot, as played, is an insufferable little twit, but he's also amusing in a way that's hard for me to explain. The rest of the cast is quite excellent and much more believable as people. The mysteries are quite good, if not somewhat far fetched and hard to follow through the twists and turns. Well, I guess that's part of the fun in watching it.

For me, one of the best parts of the episodes is the reconstruction of the mid-thirties scenes. A great deal of care and effort has been taken to be completely authentic, and the reconstruction is so good that I'd give "The Classic Collection" five stars for that alone. Someone who is interested in classic British cars would find the scenes stunning. I watched and was always amazed, and wondered how they could possibly recreate such authentic mid-thirties scenes in a busy modern urban area. In any case, the series is interesting in many different ways and well worth watching.

Ive seen all the episodes before, and I wanted to watch them again so I ordered this set. USPS took its sweet time to get it here, fortunately it arrived intact. I had a deuce of a time getting the discs out of the album, but persistence paid and I finally did and I put them in and out several times each and they go in and out well now. I tested each disc and all seemed to play. So far I have watched only two full episodes. Both played adequately on a 27" regular tv set. I got it from one of the alternate sellers and that saved a good deal on the price. Be sure to check them out if you are considering a purchase.
